Silk Scarf Water Marbling

April 29 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Create your own beautiful water marbled silk scarf! Sarah Mckeown of Magpie Marbling Studio will provide the silk scarf, tools and coaching you’ll need to create a one of kind piece of wearable art.

Water marbling has been a popular art form for centuries – it is the art of painting on water! The water is thickened and the paint is thinned, which allows simple droplets of paint to become the most beautiful and intricate designs.

Water marbling is also used for many paper arts, has adorned the endpapers of books, and been used to prevent forgery in paper currency! In modern times it has been used to decorate fabrics for clothing, home decor and so much more. Through Magpie I put a modern and interactive spin on this art as I love sharing this experience with others.

At the workshop you will choose your own colours and I will provide all the coaching and tools you need to create a beautiful, wearable, one-of-a-kind piece of art! No painting experience required – just bring your creativity and sense of adventure!

About your instructor:

My name is Sarah McKeown and I have been a water marbling artist for the past seven years. I have water marbled on a variety of items such as hats and silk fans but my favourite items are silk scarves, cotton and paper. Vintage papers create an interesting depth to the patterns and they work very well with paint. It’s also a great way to upcycle items.

I have been interested in photography since I was a child, as well as dabbling in many creative pursuits such as crochet, painting, sewing, jewellery making, and furniture restoration to name a few. Water marbling has been my biggest artistic obsession yet!
