Narrative Embroidery Workshop

March 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Tell Your Story through Narrative Embroidery

Workshop with Textile Artist Sonya Satveit

Discover the power of storytelling through the art of narrative embroidery. In this relaxed and creative 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to express your unique story using needle and thread—one stitch at a time.

This is a no-stress, free-form approach to stitching, perfect for anyone, whether you’re new to embroidery or already a seasoned stitcher. You’ll explore ways to transform personal experiences—like a health or personal journey, a wish for the future or cherished or silly memory, a favorite quote, or even something playful like what you had for breakfast—into a unique and expressive piece of textile art.

What you’ll learn:

  • Tips and tricks: threading your needle, tailors knot, etc
  • Techniques for free-form narrative stitching
  • How to turn words, ideas, and wishes into visual art
  • Ways to work with stitches, textures, and colors in creative ways
  • The joy of stitching as an act of creativity for its own sake — “Art for the purpose of creating art!”

Your finished piece can stand alone as a beautiful creation or become part of a larger project like a framed artwork, journal, quilt, or book.  The workshop focus is on the process, not the outcome—you’re free to enjoy stitching without pressure or perfection. (Note: Due to time constraints, we won’t be creating full books or quilts in this class.)

  • Supplies: A kit will be available for purchase, or you can bring your own materials (a supply list will be provided after sign up). Feel free to bring any extra fabrics, threads, or embellishments you’d like to experiment with!

Suitable for all skill levels. Come as you are, and leave with new inspiration, techniques, and a one-of-a-kind piece of art that tells your story.

Spaces are limited, so sign up early and let your story unfold—one stitch at a time!
