Karen Baillie is a fine art painter living in Collingwood, Ontario. From a young age Karen was exposed to art and artists and developed a life long love of creating in many forms. Spending summers on the shores of Lake Erie, she essentially lived at the cottage next door where her friend's mother, artist Sylvia Knowles, would spend her days painting and teaching. Karen’s grandfather studied under Frederick Varley, and growing up in the presence of the art of these two people was an inspiration in the early years.

Karen went on to study fine art at Trent University, environmental design at the Ontario College of Art, and graphic design at the International Academy of Design. Throughout the years raising her children Karen was art director of "Health Magazine", wrote and illustrated a children's book based on Long Point, Lake Erie, Owen Bedowen the Star of Port Rowan, renovated houses, and worked for a Toronto builder providing interior design advise to new customers.

What motivates an artist to spend hour upon day, month or year creating paintings, literature, or music, whether or not there is an expectation for financial reward or even recognition? I believe it is the God chromosome, the discovery of the creator that exists in all of us and the curiosity to look into the face of that finished creation. It never ceases to amaze me how a creation takes on a life separate from its creator. The artist, not unlike the new parent, looks upon blank canvas and is inspired to discover, what will this creation be?
